The Armed Forces community, (including Reservists), should enjoy the same access and standard of healthcare as received by any other UK citizen. Veterans and Reservists should receive routine healthcare and they should receive priority treatment if they have a health condition resulting from their service in the Armed Forces (subject to clinical need).

What you should expect from your GP practice:

  • If you are an Armed Forces Veteran and Reservist, it is recorded on the practice system
  • If you are referred to hospital for a health condition which may be related to your military service, the practice will state this in your referral letter so you get priority access depending on your clinical need
  • Your practice will comply with the requirements of the Armed Forces Covenant and make sure there is high-quality, responsive services for Veterans, Reservists and their families
