Demand management


Practices will be expected to:

 

  • If you need to be referred elsewhere, your practice will use the NHS e-referral system and give you a choice of where to go for your next appointment
     

  • The appropriate practice staff will be aware of the Effective Use of Resources (EUR) policies
     

  • The EUR policies must be easily accessible for the practice staff who make referrals
     

  • Your practice must comply with all the EUR policies

Membership engagement

Practices will be expected to:

  • Your practice will have a named lead who will act as the link between the practice, neighbourhood and NHS Salford CCG

  • Two representatives from your practice (one clinical and one non-clinical) will attend the quarterly Neighbourhood Clinical Commissioning Group meetings

  • The practice manager will attend the bi-monthly Salford Practice Managers Group meetings

  • The practice nurse will attend the bi-monthly Salford Practice Nurse Forum

  • At least two staff members (one clinical and one non-clinical) will attend the two Members’ Events organised by NHS Salford CCG

  • Staff at your practice will read Salford CCG’s Members News eBulletin and other communications from the CCG making sure all practice staff, including those without a computer, are kept up-to-date

  • Invite wider practice staff (who wouldn’t normally go to the above meetings) to the neighbourhood CCG engagement workshops, held twice a year

Information governance and business continuity

Practices will be expected to:

 

  • Your practice will have an up-to-date Business Continuity Plan which says what the practice will do if there is a short or long-term change to ‘business as usual’, e.g. an increase in patients needing appointments. This can include longer opening hours, telephone consultations or bringing in more staff

Accessible information

The Equality Act became law in October 2010 and covers all protected characteristics groups, one of which is disability. The Act places a legal duty on all service providers to take steps or make “reasonable adjustments” in order to avoid putting a person living with disabilities at a substantial disadvantage when compared to a person who is not disabled. 

 

Practices will be expected to: 

 

  • Your practice should make reasonable adjustments for those with protected characteristics

  • If needed, your practice should request information from Salford CCG, for example a film translated into sign language

  • If you need an interpreter, one should be provided

  • If you need pictures and symbols to help understand information, this should be provided

  • If you, or your carer, need information in a particular format or delivered in a certain way, this should be recorded on your notes

  • Your practice should make sure that there are different ways patients can give feedback on how they receive information

  • Your practice should comply with the Accessible Information Standard

  • Provide longer appointment times, where necessary

Conflicts of interest

Practices will be expected to:

 

  • All GPs, CCG staff, contractors must declare any perceived or actual conflicts of interest within 28 days of joining the CCG, if they change roles within the CCG, or if they take part in a committee or sub-committee of the CCG

  • They must also provide updates to declared conflicts of interest (or nil returns) every quarter

  • They must review their declarations of interest every year and update if needed

  • All Salford GPs should complete a Declaration of Conflicts of Interest Form and return to Salford CCG
